Jubilee: 125 years of Paul Günther Schiffsmakler GmbH

On 15 April 2016 Hamburg-based Paul Günther Schiffsmakler GmbH celebrates its 125-years jubilee. Together with its current employees, retirees and guests from the industry the traditional shipping company celebrates its special anniversary. The official jubilee event will take place next Friday at the site of the parent company Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG, of which Paul Günther has been a company, as part of the Menzell & Döhle group founded in the year 2000.

“Paul Guenther has a dynamic corporate history: two world wars, economic crises, the era of containerization of the shipping industry – all this has influenced our business,” says Alfred Hapanionek, CEO Paul Günther. “The liner agency business today is still highly competitive. We rely on highly qualified specialists and personal customer service to continue to be successful and continue to positively distinguish ourselves from the competitiors.”

On March 9, 1891, then 32-year-old founder Paul Günther laid the foundation for today’s liner agency based in Hamburg’s port city. Over the decades Paul Günther represented many well-known shipping companies. In addition to Hapag Lloyd, DAL or Rickmers Line, these included the founder of modern container shipping – Sea-Land.

Currently the team of 40 employees manages among others the shipping companies Höegh Autoliners, Sloman Neptun, Fednav/FALLine, Kenya National Shipping Line and Ceylon Shipping Corporation. In addition to its headquarters in Hamburg the company has offices in Bremen, Dusseldorf, Offenbach and Stuttgart.
