International Car Operators Zeebrugge attracts new cargo flow

Terminal operator ICO Zeebrugge scored its first contract of 2016. At the end of the week, a first vessel with a new cargo flow of Ford vehicles assembled in Turkey and Spain will arrive in Zeebrugge. The vehicles are then shipped from Zeebrugge to Scandinavia.

This way, the new cargo flow is an expansion of Zeebrugge’s roro sector, but also of Zeebrugge’s Scandinaviahub. The annual volume will be about 15,000 units.

Greek shippping liner MCCL (Meditteranean Car Carriers Line) will ship the vehicles to Zeebrugge. Euro Marine Logistics (EML), a joint venture project between Mitsui OSK Lines and Hoegh Autoliners, will handle the shipment to Scandinavia.

In 2015, the handling of new vehicles in Zeebrugge has fulfilled all the expectations. Never before did the port handle more new vehicles in one year. The volume of 2,427,950 units is a rise of 10.3 percent since 2014 and 40 percent since the 2012 result.
