Together with Regiobahn (RB), committed to the maintenance of the branch line Korneuburg – Ernstbrunn, Grampetcargo Austria GmbH (GCA), operating since April 2012, drove two block trains, each with 17 carriages of pipes to Ernstbrunn on January 13 and 18, 2018 . These were produced in a pipe works near Korinth, Greece and are designed for the construction of a new 20 kilometer gas pipeline in the Weinviertel region, Lower Austria.
From Greece to Korneuburg, the trains were operated under the responsibility of Rail Cargo Austria. The “last mile” to Ernstbrunn was handled by Grampetcargo Austria (GCA) and split to multiple groups of carriages to cope with the steep gradients.
“The transport proves that the branch line Korneuburg – Ernstbrunn is still suitable for freight traffic and the Ernstbrunn rail station can be used meaningfully in this way,” the partners involved in this project agreed. Against this background, Grampetcargo Austria, as a specialist for tailor-made full range solutions in rail logistics, is planning grain and sugar beet transports on this route in the future.
