“Despite a strained economic environment in Europe, we were able to continue the positive development of the past years through some major investments“, said Hans-Georg Geis and Wolfgang Geis, both Managing Associates. “We are satisfied with the results,” they add.
The Geis Group, based in Bad Neustadt an der Saale in Lower Franconia, plans to further expand its strong position in Central Europe throughout 2016. Therefore, the company continues to invest in network expansion and will establish, among other things, into new throughput facilities for parcels and cargo in Poland and the Czech Republic this year. In addition, new contract logistics projects have been launched earlier this year. “Our goal is and will be sane company growth”, say Hans-Georg Geis and Wolfgang Geis. “We will count on customer proximity, quality and innovation.”
One of the major investments in 2015 was the expansion of their own network. The focus was on Poland, with two acquisitions: Geis took over ET logistics, specialising on overland transport and contract logistics, and K-EX, one of Poland’s largest parcel and courier services. In Central Europe, Geis offers customers nationwide general cargo, parcel and logistics services.
With the expansion of the network, also the number of employees grew: at the end of last year 6,277 employees were working at the 140 European Geis locations – 26.8 percent more than in 2014. In addition, Geis increased the number of transport and logistics contracts by 9.6 percent to 8, 08 million. The parcel volume was doubled through the acquisition of K-EX, to 24.39 million consignments (2014: 10.52 million). The transported tonnage increased by 7.5 percent to 5.72 million tonnes.
Whereas the Road Services Germany division recorded a slight decline of 1.7 percent, Geis achieved a sales increase of 37 percent in Road Services Central Europe. Even Logistics Services, where the Geis Group bundles its contract logistics solutions, was successful with a sales increase of 6.2 percent. A growth of 8 percent was registered the business segment Air + Sea Services, handling international air and sea freight.
