The international logistics company Gebrüder Weiss counts on
environmentally friendly transport solutions. Since June 3, a gas-powered truck
has been in operation in Memmingen. It
runs daily between Memmingen and Augsburg (day traffic) and between Memmingen
and Nuremberg (night traffic).
Around 20 tonnes of CO2 will be saved each year simply by
using the new vehicle. Nitrogen oxide emissions are 70
per cent below the Euro 6 diesel limit. Their
range is between 1,200 and 1,500 kilometers. This
roughly corresponds to the distance traveled by a diesel-powered truck.
The current route, on which groupage cargo is transported
to Augsburg or Nuremberg, is thanks to its range
and the few refueling options ideal for the gas-powered swap body vehicle.
“Gebrüder Weiss is committed to sustainability – and,
of course, to minimising pollutant emissions,” says Frank Herzog, Branch
Manager in Memmingen. With the new acquisition of a
gas-driven swap body vehicle, a further step has been taken towards
environmentally friendly transport solutions.
At Gebrüder Weiss, two gas-powered trucks are currently in
use – in addition to the swap body truck in Memmingen, a tractor-trailer is in
operation in the Greater Vienna area. A third truck will soon be transporting goods from a major
customer between Vienna and Kruševac (Serbia).
In addition, since September 2018 a purely electric truck
has been tested in Greater Vienna. It is primarily about the electrification of urban
distribution traffic, where emission-free and low noise pollution play an
important role. The findings of the test phase
are then incorporated into the further development stages of the vehicle.
