Doppelmayr places order in Bolivia with Kuehne + Nagel

La Paz has the largest urban cable car system in the world, which is continuously expanded due to the growing traffic volume and its unfavorable topographic location for building roads. Until 2019, an almost continuous cable car network of approximately 30 kilometers will be set up. This shall relieve the roads of the metropolis in future and offer commuters an environmentally friendly transport alternative.

In the course of the cable car expansion project Kuehne + Nagel organises the intermodal door-to-door transport of all inserts from the Doppelmayr plant in Wolfurt to the construction site in La Paz within a planned period of two years. In the future, additional detachable monocables for 10 persons per gondola will be used. The planned capacity of each line within the cable car network is 3,000 people per hour and direction.

“For the implementation of the cable car project in Bolivia, it was crucial for us to cooperate with a global logistics partner who can meet our high standards, both at our production site in Vorarlberg and in Bolivia,” says Sascha Riedler, Head of Logistics Doppelmayr.

“Kuehne + Nagel offers its customers worldwide highly flexible and customised services. We are pleased to bringing our expertise as a logistics partner of Doppelmayr to one of South America’s major mobility projects,” says Yusuf Gozalimuda, Seafreight Manager of Kuehne + Nagel, Vorarlberg.

As quality, technology and market leader in the cable car construction industry, Doppelmayr / Garaventa operates production and sales sites in more than 35 countries around the world. To date, the company has produced over 14,700 cable car systems for customers in 90 countries.
