Bought online, the “digital vignette” for cars and vans up to 3.5 tonnes maximum gross weight is only valid after a period of 18 days. Purchased in a tobacco shop, the digital vignette is valid immediately and the drivers can use all roads in Austria requiring this vignette as a toll right away.
The validity of the 2018 vignette will end on 31st January 2019. Taking into account the 18 days waiting period, the new digital vignette for 2019 should be purchased online by 14th January 2019 at the latest. “When buying in the tobacco shop, this deadline is omitted,” reminds Josef Prirschl, spokesman of the tobacconists.
The digital vignette can be purchased from 1,500 tobacconists throughout Austria. Both annual and short-term vignettes are available in the classic and digital form.
