As a global logistics partner, DHL will ensure the transport of the racing series to Austria. For the race weekend between June 28th-30th, DHL will handle around 1,160 tonnes of equipment, including all racing teams’ vehicles. The freight will be carried using multimodal transport including road, sea and air, with up to seven Boeing 747 freighters for races outside Europe.
In addition to transporting the equipment to the venue, the company is also responsible for local logistics. DHL has been involved in the Formula 1 for more than 35 years and became the official logistics partner in 2004. Some members of DHL’s motor sports team have been working in F1 for much longer, supporting logistics of well over 500 races.
This season, Formula 1 is celebrating its 1,000th race. Also, DHL has a reason to celebrate, as the brand is 50 years old this year. On the occasion of the 1,000th race, DHL is hosting the Fan Contest #MyF1Moment, where fans are invited to share their personal highlights from 1,000 races. The competition is open until 18th August 2019 and the winner can travel to a Grand Prix as a fan reporter. The race track in Spielberg was opened in 1969, the founding year of DHL, and is located in Upper Styria, Aichfeld.
“Like no other racing series, Formula 1 stands for speed, precision and top performance,” says Ralf Schweighöfer, Managing Director of DHL Express (Austria) GmbH. “These qualities are also the foundation of our business and the foundation of our worldwide success.” For this reason, DHL honors outstanding lap times since the 2007 season with the DHL Fastest Lap Award, which goes to the driver with the fastest laps at the end of the season. Since 2015, DHL has also awarded the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award. In addition to Formula 1, DHL is partnering with several other motor sports championships, including Formula E, in which DHL is a founding partner. With around 380,000 employees in more than 220 countries and territories worldwide, the group achieved 2018 sales of more than EUR 61 billion.
