DHK urges for more moderate border controls

German Chamber of Commerce in Austria warns against the consequences of border controls for the automotive supply industry

DHK urges for more moderate border controls

“We are concerned about the many companies, especially in the automotive industry in Austria, Germany and Hungary, whose production is tuned to just-in-time deliveries and who have to fear losses in revenue.

Therefore we demand the reduction of border controls between Austria and Hungary to the essentially necessary, and to avoid unnecessary impeding of free movement of goods and merchandises,” reads a statement of Thomas Gindele CEO DHK.

Effective 5 July 2016, the Austrian police introduced stricter border controls when leaving Austria to Hungary. This caused kilometers of traffic jams on the A4 motorway, particularly affecting the transport of goods and merchandises. As a result numerous entrepreneurs called the German Chamber of Commerce in Austria (DHK) to express their discontent and their resentment about this impediment.
