DB Schenker supplies the 3,000 triathletes of the “Ironman Austria”

For the 13th consecutive year, the competitors and organizers of the “Ironman Austria” count on the know-how and the expertise of the “Official Logistics Partner” DB Schenker. The “Ironman 2016” will take place on 26th June in Klagenfurt and as in previous years, around 3,000 athletes from over 60 nations will have to complete an enormous program: 3.8 km of swimming in the Wörthersee, 180 kilometers of cycling and the final marathon of 42.2 km  to their destination in the Klagenfurter Ostbucht.

Around 100 employees of DB Schenker throughout Austria support the “Ironman Team” with a smooth logistics. In addition to the distribution of program information, they will especially take care of the comprehensive supply of athletes.

Besides drinks and energy snacks, the DB Schenker team will also provide more than 2,500 nutrition packages to participants, which the athletes put together for the competition individually and then handed over to the logistics service provider in advance. The position of the triathletes is transmitted to the DB Schenker team via electronic tracking, so that the individual nutrition package can be handed out upon arrival of the athlete.

“For the ,Ironman’, speed and stamina are needed. This also applies to our employees, because the athletes have no time to spare at the package distribution points, and, of course, the packages must always be given to the correct person. It is our responsibility to guarantee absolutely flawless logistics in every moment, “explains Klaus Maximilian Hermetter, branch manager at DB Schenker in Klagenfurt.
