Initiated by the Vienna office of Hafen Hamburg Marketing, a team of 13 from the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences visited the Buss Hansa Terminal (BHT) in Hamburg at the end of October. The students of the part-time study program International Business Administration with a focus on Supply Chain Management gained insights into the operation of a multipurpose terminal.
The required equipment was presented to the students in the course of a guided tour through the 195,000 m² terminal area, where cargo of up to 280 tonnes is lifted by two cranes in tandem. An about 25,000 m² covered warehouse accomodates a packing station for containers and flat racks, a repair shop and several storage areas for general and project cargo.
“The average limit of project cargo transhipped in Austria is 80 tonnes per piece. The Buss Hansa Terminal in Hamburg is on an equal footing with the heavy cargo terminals in Antwerp and Rotterdam“, said Anneke Hartwigk-Lüdemann, Account Manager Bulk/Break Bulk/Project. Austria’s industry appreciates these terminals because of their direct connection to the Rhine-Main-Danube waterway.
In order to expand the service range for Austrian customers in the segments of project load and conventional cargo in Germany, Buss Port Logistics plans to implement a regular block train service on the Berlin-Wels route and back. From there loads can be forwarded by barge to Hamburg.
Buss Port Logistics operates efficient multipurpose terminals for bulk and break bulk cargo, heavylift, containers, project cargo and offshore wind park components at locations in Germany, Turkey and the Netherlands. The company also offers several port-specific one-stop-shop services, such as stowing, lashing and securing as well as export packaging and Container Freight Station (CFS). The logistics specialist develops customised transport solutions. Moreover the company plans and develops new port facilities and operates as an offshore wind logistician base, production and service ports in Eemshaven, Sassnitz and Stade.
