BOXmover sidelifter accelerates works logistics at Wacker-Chemie

One year ago Karl Schmidt Spedition GmbH & Co KG, in charge of works logistics at Wacker-Chemie AG in Burghausen, Germany, among others, has addressed BOXmover GmbH and ordered a BOXmover sidelifter for the KombiTerminal Burghausen (KTB). The order had a value of about EUR 200,000.
Until completion in December 2014, the company was equipped with a similarly built rental vehicle. In the meantime, the BOXmover sidelifter tailored according to the customer’s requirements has been delivered, and started daily operation. Its full range of options are being used, namely for manipulating standard, chemical and tank containers of different lengths and weight. The containers are mainly used for various production processes in the chemical plant on the ground floor, but also for throughput from one chassis to another, as well as from truck to railway, as required by the customers.
“We are very pleased with the BOXmover sidelifting technology, as it allows an easy and timesaving handling of any load units. Its innovative constructin design makes the vehicle quite sophisticated and drivers need to get used to it, but with the many trainings we are looking confidently to the future,” says Stefen Marting, Karl Schmidt forwarding. “We decided to take the BOXmover because in the event of repair or maintenance the company can provide a rental vehicle within a few hours, and has a geographical advantage for Germany compared to other providers.”
Karl Schmidt Spedition counts among Europe’s leading logistics providers in the bulk cargo segment. Established in 1948 the family enterprise has 1,700 employees at 44 locatins, 850 silo vehicles and about 6,000 bulk containers. Today the company is operating globally and has been awarded by Wacker Chemie as the best logistics partner for outstanding quality in transport handling last year. Wacker Chemie AG is a globally operating chemical group with about 16,700 employees and 25 production sites worldwide. The BOXmover sdelifter is located at the KombiTerminal Burghausen – a newly established and state-of-the-art rail/truck transhipment facility directly at the border with Austria, at the federal road Nr. 20 and close to the plant of Wacker Chemie AG.
