„Bavaria Shuttle” reveals new intermodal corridor to Austria

„Bavaria Shuttle” reveals new intermodal corridor to Austria

European Cargo Logistics GmbH (ECL) – a 100% subsidiary of Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft mbH (LHG) – has added a new train product to its schedule. At the end of August 2018, the first Bavaria Shuttle was operated from the intermodal terminal in Travemünde (Baltic Rail Gate) to Bavaria. Initially the new train will carry containers and trailers three times a weekbetween Lübeck and Nuremberg.

At the end of August 2018, the first Bavaria Shuttle from Travemünde (Baltic Rail Gate) to Bavaria. Initially the new train wants to carry containers and trailers three times a week between Lübeck and Nuremberg. 

Via the terminal of TriCon Container-Terminal Nürnberg GmbH in bayernhafen Nürnberg, Scandinavia as well as Russia and the Baltic States will be connected to Bavaria, western Czech Republic, and Austria. “The new connection opens up a large catchment area for intermodal transport solutions. The trains run at night and are ideally connected to the ferry traffic in Lübeck”, explains Tobias Behncke, who is responsible for the intermodal segment of ECL.

At the beginning of October, the frequency of three weekly departures will be increased to daily departures in each direction. ECL expects to shift some 17,000 units from road to rail in the first year, thereby making a contribution to reducing CO2 emissions.

“The Bavaria Shuttle can transport craneable trailers and containers and offers all the advantages of our one-stop-shop service”, explains ECL Managing Director Jörg Ullrich and goes on to explain: “With the Bavaria Shuttle the forwarde get everything they need from a single source: from ferry booking and train booking to trucking solutions at the terminals. For this we have found the ideal partners for implementation in TriCon and bayernhafen,” explains ECL’s Managing Director Jörg Ullrich.

“The intermodal relation Nuremberg-Lübeck is the main route of Central Europe,” says Alexander Ochs, authorised officer and intermodal manager of bayernhafen and managing director of the operating company of bayernhafen Nürnberg, the port of Nürnberg-Roth GmbH, “Goods from the entire Baltic region are now scheduled to leave Lübeck bayernhafen Nuremberg – and from there to all of Bavaria, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and Northern Italy.
