Austrian Post has received a very special award for its concept of electric mobility: the renowned and internationally recognised Energy Globe Award. After first being awarded the environmental prize Energy Globe Vienna and subsequently the Energy Globe Austria 2017-award for the delivery of electric vehicles in the “Air” category, the company now received the international award for the unique, environmentally friendly measure. This was implemented as part of the “CO2 neutral delivery” initiative launched in 2011.
Austrian Post is building on the future technology of electric vehicles and is thus already one of the absolute pioneers in the field of electromobility. Also between 1913 and 1985, the company had e-vehicles in use. Following the departure of the last models, the restart of e-mobility was initiated in 2012. The number of initially 262 e-vehicles has meanwhile increased to almost 1,450 vehicles: 630 e-bikes, 372 e-mopeds and 441 e-cars and vans are in service – and the e-fleet will be further expanded in the future.
E-vehicles used by Post are gradually replacing conventional vehicles. Using three of its own photovoltaic systems, around 1.4 million kWh of clean energy are generated each year, which can be used to supply the entire electric vehicle fleet.
Every year, the Energy Globe Award honours outstanding, sustainable projects with a focus on resource conservation, energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies. The aim of the award is to present innovative and sustainable initiatives to a broad public in order to achieve a multiplier effect. The international winning projects in the six award categories Earth, Fire, Water, Air, Youth and Sustainable Plastics were honoured in a worldwide TV gala.
