Expanding its offer and services, the Austrian Post responds to the increasing e-commerce, which is also related to increasing parcel volumes. “We want to score with best delivery and service quality at our customers. I am convinced in the highly competitive parcel market you can only maintain your position by offering a combination of innovative additional offers, high service quality and fast delivery“, DI Peter Umundum, CEO Parcel & Logistics Austrian Post, emphasised in a press conference.
The Post informs the recipients about a time window for delivery, calculated to three hours exactly. The communication is effected via app, email or text message. The customer can also redirect the parcel to a nearby branch or pick-up station, any neighbors or to a specificplace at home. Another new feature is the “preferred day”. This enables customers to delay the delivery of a consignment up to five days.
Another additional offer is the delivery on Saturdays. The pilot operation was started in six delivery bases, serving more than 300,000 households. Until the end of this year Saturday delivery, without additional charges, shall be expanded to metropolitan areas all over Austria.
“We questioned senders and recipients about their opinion on Saturdays delivery and received quite positive feedbaack from both groups“, said Peter Umundum. Recipients welcome the fast delivery and the fact that they are more likely to be at home when parcels are delivered on Saturdays, than on weekdays. In general online shoppers appreciate low shipping costs, punctual delivery and a defined time of delivery. The Österreichische Post AG will not charge any additional charges for the new Saturday delivery.
