The Austrian market will be served even faster and more effectively in the future. This was one of the key statements of Dimitrij Zadel, CEO Luka Koper d.d., at yesterday’s customer event at the Natural History Museum in Vienna.

In this context, the manager emphasised the great importance of Austria for the port of Koper. In 2018, around 7 million tons of goods were handled in the Slovenian seaport going from and to destinations in the Republic of Austria.

Container traffic showed a significant volume of 225,000 TEUs in 2018, including 55,000 TEUs stuffed on behalf of companies from the industries of wood, paper, pulp, energy drinks and refractory products.

Luka Koper has started this year a series of major investments, aimed at increasing capacity especially on the Container and at the Car & RO-RO terminal. Intensive construction works are going on various locations around the port.

The Pier I extension project anticipates the construction of a quayside 98.5 metres long and 34.4 meters wide, as well as the construction of a hinterland area on the pier’s southern side with a total size of 24,830 m². The whole investment which is expected to be completed in 2021 will result in a container terminal able to handle at least 1.5 million TEUs annually.
