Asfinag doubles the number of public webcams

Webcams help car drivers to visualise the local traffic situation – which is possible at any time via Asfinag App or the website with comprehensive webcam content. More than 300 million single pictures from public webcams are delivered per month.
More road safety, optimal planning for possible impairments and an overview of the actual weather conditions on the routes – the live images of highways and expressways are an indispensable part of traffic information, the use of webcams is very high,” explains Bernd Datler, CEO Asfinag. They added 100 cameras (650 web cams in total) already in 2015.
But that was only the beginning. “In 2016 we will double the webcam offer. Until the end of 2016, 1,200 cameras will be available via app and website “, announces Bernd Datler.
The webcams are currently the most popular content of AsfinagÄs traffic information services. In 2015, Asfinag saw 500 million hits on the cameras. The delivered pictures increased from nearly 170 million in September 2014, to more than 300 million in September 2015.
Asfinag’s webcams give truck drivers, commuters and leisure travellers an idea of the current traffic situation, at any time, quickly and easily. This is irrespective of whether the live images are directly accessed via the traffic information services of Asfinag, or delivered via the cooperation partners (e.g. Ö3 radio station, ÖAMTC automobile association, austria.com,).
