The domestic logistics industry has great opportunities to further expand its internationally strong position. For the further development of transport and logistics infrastructure as well as e-commerce, politics needs to ensure better digital infrastructure and promote and allow new technologies. This demand was raised by the Austrian forwarding & logistics association (ZV) on 30th November at its 2018 general meeting in Vienna.

At the same time, Alexander Friesz (Lagermax) was elected as new president and successor of Wolfram Senger-Weiss for a period of four years. He will be assisted by Wolfram Senger-Weiss (Gebrüder Weiss) and Peter Umundum as Vice Presidents. The members of the Presidium were elected or confirmed, respectively: Franz Braunsberger (Kühne + Nagel), Rebekka Durst (Kuehne + Nagel), Klaus Hrazdira (Quehenberger Logistics), Jan Kalmring (Panalpina), Walter Konzett (Gebrüder Weiss), Wolfgang Schneckenreither (Schneckenreither) and Alexander Winter (DB Schenker).

In his new position as President, Alexander Friesz wants to continue on the successful path of the association on a wide basis. “Our 2025 Master Plan Logistics presents an ambitious strategy for Austria as a logistics location. Its implementation will require the full commitment of everyone involved in business and politics, and stakeholders.”

In particular, Austria must do everything in its power to generate added value and jobs from the ever-growing e-commerce sector. This will be about speeding up the discussion on the topic of land use for logistics and creating up-to-date customs regulations, according to the keynote address at the ZV general Meeting. For the first time, key requirements of the ZV were incorporated into a government program in 2017, and in 2018, Austria was among the top five on the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index for the first time.

Alexander Friesz (62) is a board member and co-owner of Lagermax Lagerhaus und Speditions AG in Salzburg. After a successful international career in tourism, he moved to the board of Lagermax AG in 1996, where he had been a member of the supervisory board since 1987. As Managing Director of various Lagermax companies, he contributed significantly to the expansion of the group and its growth from EUR 100 to 500 million in annual sales.

Parallel to this Alexander Friesz has been a member of the Presidium of the ZV since 1996 and vice-president since 1999. In addition to other functions, since 2000 he has chaired the specialist group of freight forwarders in Salzburg and has been a member of the board of the association of freight forwarders in the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKO).
