Record year 2019 for parcel logistics by Post

In 2019, Austrian Post transported a record volume of 127 million parcels. Compared to 2018, the volume of parcels transported rose by almost 18 percent, the company informs in a mailing. In 2009, they registered 50 million parcels.

This means the volume has more than doubled within the past ten years. This rapid increase is a result of strong organic growth – driven by the booming online trade – on the one hand, but also of additional volume delivered by Austrian Post for DHL in Austria since August 2019.

On average days, Austrian Post transported about 420,000 parcels throughout Austria. In December, this number rose to over 600,000 parcels per day. The company also recorded a new all-time high on December 11th, when Austrian Post distributed 765,000 parcels throughout Austria just on this day.

In order to prepare for the future, Austrian Post is investing massively in its infrastructure. 2019 was a record year of investments, EUR 160 million were invested, a large part of which went into the expansion and construction of new logistics locations. According to the company, the level of investment will be on a similar scale in 2020.
