New record for Trieste Marine Terminal (TMT) in intermodal traffic departing from and arriving to Molo VII of the Port of Trieste: more than 3,000 trains operated and a 49.75% increase in volumes during 2018.
The result is based on the very strong growth in Central and Eastern Europe, where Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Germany and especially Hungary lead the growth with increases from 70 to 130%. The availability of operational spaces, rare bird in the Adriatic, and the capacity of the railway infrastructure, represent the main factors driving development, allowing the various railway operators to offer punctual and efficient services.
With a growth close to 15% and almost 626.000 TEUs, Trieste Marine Terminal established, during 2018, the best result ever in the handling of containers at Molo VII. The consolidated role of gateway to Central and Eastern Europe is the main reason for the record.
In the development of a short term, TMT aims to accommodate ever larger ships (today 14,000 TEUs are already operated) but also to increase the important role of gateway to and from the Mediterranean, with an expansion of the Intramed services made available by the various shipping companies.
