GLS Austria launched the construction of a sustainable depot in Kalsdorf near Graz on November 22nd, with a groundbreaking ceremony. On a total area of almost 17,000 m², the construction company ATC is building a depot for the parcel company with 100 gates for delivery vehicles and ten gates for trucks.
With this project the company was responding to the massive volume increases in the region and wants to start operating the site in mid-2019, according to Axel Spörl, General Manager GLS Austria. The depot, from which large parts of Styria as well as areas of Carinthia and Burgenland will be supplied, will be equipped with numerous environmentally friendly elements. In addition to sockets for electric cars, the site will have, for example, heat pump heating and a waste management system.
With a building size of 4,716 m², GLS will be able to work with two additional transport partners hiring more than 30 new delivery drivers. State-of-the-art conveyor technology and integrated underfloor heating should ensure pleasant working conditions for employees in the hall even in winter. Axel Spörl adds: “The new depot in Kalsdorf is a sustainable investment in quality and future-oriented growth.”
The municipality of Kalsdorf, located in the immediate vicinity of the A9 and A2 as well as the airport Graz, offers GLS an optimal connection to the transport network. Mayor Ursula Rauch explains: “We are pleased about the establishment of GLS. It brings us extra jobs and tax revenues.”
