Five years anniversary of food logistics in one piece

Under Dachser’s system management, the European Food Network offers transnational, pan-European food logistics

Five years anniversary of food logistics in one piece

The European Food Network has been writing a success story for five years. On May 6th, 2013, Alfred Miller, Managing Director Dachser Food Logistics, together with eleven other logistics companies, gave the go-ahead for Europe’s first associated network for positive temperature food transports at the “transport logistic “trade fair in Munich. Since then “one-stop cross-border food logistics” has been offered on the European continent under Dachser’s system management.

With its clearly defined, cross-border groupage transport, the European Food Network offers something for every need. The individual service packages of the vivengo product world are available for specific, defined delivery times within Europe. The current shipment status and the delivery receipt of each vivengo shipment can be viewed online.

The offer of the European Food Network is continuously improved. In 2016, the first euro hub for trans-European food consignments went into operation in Erlensee, one of the most important hubs. With the start of this transshipment hub, intra-European transport times for food were cut by an average of one day.

Moreover, new partners joined the European Food Network: since 2016, Logifrio (Spain) has been involved. Dachser acquired the remaining shares in the Italian food contract logistics company Papp Italia in 2017, thereby strengthening its position in Southern Europe – now as Dachser Italy.

Belgrade-based food logistics specialist Nelt is responsible for groupage shipments via Serbia to Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina. The Turkish partner Aktur Lojistik now enables exports to Turkey also in the shape of small consignments. And since 2018, Scandinavian market leader Bring Frigo has been handling shipments in Norway, Sweden and Finland.

The European Fresh Pact has already reached great dimensions in the past five years. Today, the eleven partners together have more than two million food-safe storage areas and around 11,300 refrigeration units for transport. Customers can ship their goods to 34 countries. The aim is to become the leading network for intra-European food transports.
