Transmec is continuing to expand its intermodal offer by investing in infrastructure and new services to western and eastern Europe. The Group has upgraded its rail terminal at Oradea, Romania, adding 10,000 m² of concrete platform – a 50 per cent increase – to provide access to an extra 300 metres of track.
Supporting Transmec’s intermodal growth strategy, the development enables selected partners to operate from the hub. As a result, Transmec customers can now take advantage of partners’ services from Oradea to Lodz in central Poland and Kaldenkirchen in Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia region.
The link with the German city, which lies close to the Dutch border, runs twice weekly in both directions while the frequency of the single round trip per week service to Lodz is already set to double – just weeks after its July launch.
Transmec continues to run its well-established services five times per week between Oradea and Zeebrugge in Belgium and Piacenza in northern Italy in conjunction with P&O Ferrymasters. It also operates a daily rail service between Novara in northern Italy and Zeebrugge with ferry connections to the UK.
Transmec has previously spent EUR 6 million in building a 600-strong intermodal fleet which includes 430 Huckepack trailers, 130 swap bodies and 40 box containers for moving hanging garments. Managing director of Transmec Group, Danilo Montecchi, says: “Intermodal continues to go from strength to strength and our latest investment marks a new phase in the evolution of our terminal at Oradea. Customers are now benefiting from a superb hub facility that provides a price-competitive and eco-friendly gateway to important growth markets.”
The highly-secure Oradea terminal operates 24/7 and on-site services include import/export clearance and cross-docking/transhipment into secure warehousing.
