DB Schenker saw positive performance across the board

When presenting the 2016 annual report the Deutsche Bahn group announced a positive development of business with DB Schenker with 68,388 employees worldwide. Despite some strong performances of competitors, the logistics provider was able to increase its market position in European land transport, and achieved a moderate growth in sales to EUR 6.3 billion. The volume of shipments in European land transport rose by 0.3 percent to 99.6 million shipments.

The air Air reight volume has increased by 4.5 percent to 1.18 million tonnes. Contract logistics showed a sales growth of around 4 percent to EUR 2.5 billion with 8 million m² of warehouse space worldwide. Ocean freight volume increased by 3.3 percent year-on-year to about 2 million TEU.

“2016 was a good year for Deutsche Bahn”, Dr. Richard Lutz, new Commissionery Head of CEO and Chairman Board division, said at the press conference. DB’s sales grew moderately to EUR 40.6 billion. The operating result (adjusted EBIT) rose to EUR 187 million (+10.6 percent) to EUR 1.95 billion.

The performance in rail cargo transport showed a year-on-year increase of 3.8 percent to 94.7 billion tonne-kilometres. DB Cargo is currently trying to sustainably return to the path of success with a comprehensive approach to reposition their operations.
