As of 1 July 2015: Norway introduces minimum wage for truck drivers

“Allmenngjøring av tariffavtaler for godstransport på vei“ (announcement of collective agreements for road haulage) applies for drivers from Norway and abroad

The regulation prescribes minimum wage and a daily allowance as follows: The minimum wage is NOK 158.32 per hour, the diet NOK 307, for each 24 hours. For each commenced period of eight-hours, 1/3 of the diet amount must be paid, i.e. a total 3/3 for 24 hours. If the employee/driver already has better conditions, however, these apply, informs the consortium of international road hauliers in Austria.
This regulation applies to foreign drivers if the transport customer/purchasers (not the goods recipient) is located in Norway (except when the driver drives to the group’s own companies or for a recruiter). Thus, both cabotage trips in Norway as well as international transports – crossing the Norwegian border – may be affected by it. The regulation applies only to freight transport on roads with trucks or similar vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. Courier services and goods delivery with cars or vans are therefore not covered. Apprentices or persons working on labor market measures are exempt from the provisions. The provision does not apply to the carriage of goods in-house.
What will be new from 1 July as well, severe violation against the publication or labour protection law will be fined with a prison sentence of up to 1 year and three months.
