The Austrian Freight Transport Association (Fachverband Güterbeförderung in der Wirtschaftskammer Österreich – WKO) reached an agreement with vida, the transport and services trade union, on a wage increase of 2.5 percent for truck drivers, effective from 1 January 2020. “Given an average inflation rate of 1.6 percent in the last few months, the employees will now get a net wage increase”, said Karl Delfs, Road Department Secretary  in the vida trade union.

Also all bonuses and apprenticeship allowances will be increased by 2.5 percent. The collective agreement for the approximately 50,000 truck drivers in Austria will apply for one year.

“The negotiations took place within the usual constructive framework of social partnership. We were able to reach a compromise that was acceptable to both sides,” Karl Delfs added. In addition to the wage increase, the social partners have agreed that employees should receive a paid day off for the first day of school of one own’s child or for a child living in the same household.
