125 years Kuehne + Nagel – 45 years Kuehne + Nagel in Austria

In the presence of many business partners and customers Kuehne + Nagel presented its “jubilee container“ at the Austria Center Vienna on 18 June

On the occasion of its 125th anniversary Kuehne + Nagel has sent two 40 ft containers on a trip around the world – one going eastwards, the second going westwards. At a total of 14 places these two containers will be presented during national customer events. Guests in Vienna were able to get an insight into the container on 18 June. Four multimedia displays offered customers and business partners information on the history, service portfolio, innovations and career opportunities of the Kuehne + Nagel Group.
In the course of the event Stefan Paul, Member of the Management in charge of Overland Transport, Kuehne + Nagel International AG, said: „This world trip of the jubilee-containers points out the leading position of Kuehne + Nagel in global sea freight business, but also the strengths of its global network.“
125 years ago, August Kuehne and Friedrich Nagel founded a forwarding company in Bremen under the name Kuehne + Nagel. What started with transporting raw products such as cotton, cereals, wood, animal feed and sugar, has developed into one of the leading global logistics companies. Today, Kuehne + Nagel has a logistics network that spans the globe with 63,000 employees at 1,000 sites in more than 100 countries and offers its customers integrated and high value-added logistics solutions.
45 years ago Kuehne + Nagel launched its operations in Austria providing general cargo transport. One year later, they established their first warehouse and office building at Vienna’s Südbahnhof. With the takeover of the Serat company in the early 70ies, they had their first locations in Upper Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol and Styria.
For reasons of growth, the company was relocated in 1978 to Freudenau, and in 1988 a 30,000 m² facility was built in the Port of Vienna. Today Kuehne + Nagel has more than 12 branch offices in Austria and is active in all major freight forwarding and logistics areas. The importance of the Vienna location is underlined by the new Eastern European land transport hub, with groundbreaking in May.
Bob Mihok, Regional Manager of Kuehne + Nagel in Eastern Europe: “Our success in Austria is based on customer orientation, first-class logistics services as well as the team spirit and commitment of our employees. In this dynamic market environment, we will continue to identify opportunities and develop future-oriented solutions for our customers. ”
